Viaduct is seeking a Senior Manufacturing Engineer who wants to be part of a dynamic, growing company. You will be responsible for designing and implementing production systems for the scale-up of the company"s breakthrough process technology. You will be involved in all facets of project implementation: designing new systems, driving procurement, and working to implement systems on the manufacturing floor. An important facet of your work will encompass project management of engineering initiatives. Your mission will be to make our product better, faster, and cheaper while maintaining safety, quality, and compliance standards. It is a hands-on role where the right candidate will serve multiple roles:
 
Production Systems Development
  • Identify opportunities for improvement in the plant
  • Work with the team to define practical solutions that are cost and time-effective
  • Design improvements and specify components for fabrication by external sources
  • Coordinate with both outside vendors and internal teams to expedite implementation
  • Integrate your systems on the shop floor, testing their performance
  • Design improvements and strive for continual improvement across all processes
  • Manage capital projects: project definition, contractor quoting and selection, project execution and bring up.
  • Develop documentation and procedures to support all operations functions
General Qualifications
  • Plants Startup: We seek an individual who has played a role in designing/implementing production/process improvements at multiple production facilities. Experience in material processing, physical goods and commodity manufacturing is required. Familiarity with pulp and paper, insulation, or other relevant technologies is critical. Plant engineering background and experience working with contractors on commissioning plants is important.
  • Project Management: We are looking for an experienced project leader, who can drive projects and get things done from day one. We need organizational skills and leadership skills, combined with sound engineering skills.
  • Experience Across a Range of Scales / Industries: The ideal candidate can handle the high paced environment of a disruptive startup but can also understand the mindset of cost-conscious commodity manufacturing operations.
  • Hands on Mechanical Design/Build Experience: We are seeking a candidate who has been engineering production systems/processes for at least 10-20 years. We want a candidate that will get their hands dirty helping us build the plant, but also will step up a level and help oversee projects required to scale up the plant and contribute to the design of future plants.
  • Versed in Technology: We need an engineer well versed in SolidWorks and/or other CAD systems and who is adept in Excel and other software packages. We need someone who can clearly specify and communicate requirements through appropriate engineering specifications.
Specific Technical Qualifications:
Deep experience in bulk material handling and sorting systems, particularly moving bulk materials specifically including:
  • Waste recycling processes
  • Various separation processes (sorting technologies for dust, sand, fiber, metal etc.)
  • Pneumatic conveyance systems design/sizing, cyclonic separation and airlocks
  • Conveyors, augers and other mechanical conveyance systems
  • Mixing and blending equipment
  • Form, fill and seal packaging equipment
  • Bale breaking and paper shredding equipment
  • Bulk materials storage systems (silos, walking floors, etc.)
  • Milling equipment and various forms of size reduction equipment
  • Liquid pumping, metering and spraying systems
  • Drying systems, specifically those associated with removing moisture from organic materials
Experience overseeing improvement efforts in reliability, availability and maintainability from an engineering perspective, including:
  • Troubleshooting systems to identify the root cause of failures
  • Designing upgrades to equipment that improve reliability, availability and maintainability
  • Developing and improving preventative maintenance programs
  • Documenting procedures and training both operators and maintenance personnel

Target salary range $ 100-115K
 
Job Requirements

 
Required Skills / Qualifications:
  • 5 years of engineering experience in manufacturing setting
  • Bachelors degree in Engineering discipline
 

Preferred Skills / Qualifications:
  • Experience designing upgrades to equipment that will improve reliability, availability and maintainability
  • Experience moving bulk materials throughout facility
