Acara Solutions has an opening for an Direct Hire Engineering Technician for an Aerospace company that is a worldwide supplier of Communication Systems.
Job Summary
This position supports engineering development as well as production and maintenance of Palomar Intercommunication System installed on various military platforms.  Performs functional and operational tests, analyze the test results, prepare proper documentation and troubleshoot/repair a wide variety of communications products within standard time and practice constraints. Fabrication of electrical cables, harnesses and test equipment to support the development of new and legacy products.
Primary Responsibilities
Essential functions of the position include, but are not limited to: 
  • Set-Up and operate a variety of standard & complex electronic test equipment (like oscilloscopes, analyzers, power supplies, meters and any other special electronics test gear), perform functional/final testing on audio transmitting/receiving equipment, troubleshoot top level and lower level assemblies including circuit cards
  • Diagnoses the cause of any malfunctions found at the top level assembly, lower level assemblies and/or circuit card assemblies of intricate audio transmitting/receiving equipment and makes all necessary corrections/adjustments using the proper soldering, adjusting, cleaning and/or any other necessary processes, rarely needing help from Engineering and/or Manufacturing Engineering
  • Works with a minimum of formal documentation/technical aids to complete assignments
  • Develops formal quality and test/specification documentation, aided by Engineering/Manufacturing Engineering, when necessary
  • Makes verbal and written reports as required
  • Performs related duties and responsibilities as assigned
  • Knowledge of a wide variety of electronics test and analyzing equipment and the ability to set it up, run multifaceted tests, analyze the results of the tests and make any corrections required
  • Ability to work on multiple projects at the same time including both digital and analog circuitry with an excellent level of workmanship
  • Excellent electronics troubleshooting skills
  • Good verbal and written English communication skills
  • Ability to read and understand circuit and wiring diagrams, technical specifications and electronics test procedures
  • Must be proficient with soldering surface mount (SMT) and through hole components on circuit card assemblies, good knowledge of components and able to work with engineers with minimal supervision
  • Coordinate and exchange findings with engineering staff
  • Follows established procedures and applies knowledge of concepts and practices in wiring, soldering, component installation and cable harnessing to assemble complete units
Job Requirements

Required Skills / Qualifications:
  • A.S. Degree - equivalent and five or more years of relevant experience - 
  • Minimum three years or more experience fabricating breakout boxes requiring the mounting and wiring of various switches, connectors, and indicators
  • Minimum 1 year experience with a drill press is essential
  • Minimum 2 years experience with fabricating and assembling electrical and electronic cables, fabricating wire harnesses including termination of shielding to connector back shells, assemblies and avionics components
Preferred Skills / Qualifications:
Aerospace/Military environment working on communications systems and/or equipment that processes audio signals
  • IPC / J-STD-001 soldering certification or equivalent experience
  • IPC / WHMA-620 Cable and Wire Harness Assemblies or equivalent experience.
  • Having worked closely with Manufacturing and Design Engineering through product development is preferred.
