Description

Seeking a Director of Finance for a medical device organization in Buffalo, NY. The organization relies on earned revenue, state grants, and philanthropy to create a financially sustainable model. Since the company is a non-profit organization, it must adhere to applicable financial requirements and filings. This position is responsible for ensuring the organization's compliance with all state and federal requirements, while working in conjunction with auditors and the Treasurer. The Director of Finance also will make certain the company meets its financial obligations in a timely manner and maintain good financial relationships with vendors and customers. Assisting with grant tracking and reporting to state grantors and community foundations is also key. This individual should come to know our financial status, obligations, and processes like the back of their hand and serve as an in-house resource and advisor.

Responsibilities:
  • Oversee the development, maintenance and auditing of uniform, accurate and complete financial records and internal controls for all operations
  • Oversee and participate in budget development and financial management
    1. Create and analyze budgets
    2. Generate, review, analyze and communicate financial data that reflects actual financial performance against budgets
    3. Preparation and filing quarterly NYS tax returns
  • Reports organization's finances to management, and offers suggestions about resource utilization, tax strategies, and assumptions underlying budget forecasts
  • Participate in strategic planning and advise management on tax ramifications of business decisions and recommend fiscally advantageous methods to save money
  • Analyze trends, costs, cash flow, revenues, financial commitments, and obligations incurred to predict future revenues and expenses.
  • Identify opportunities to increase revenue and decrease expense without compromising quality
  • Audit accounts for errors, variances, misinformation, fraud, and overspending
  • Verify details of business transactions in journals and/or computer files
  • Reconcile and balance accounts to or through trial balance
  • Proactively inspect and audit business processes, financial transactions and reporting throughout the year to manage risk. Identify opportunities to improve efficiency and cost- effectiveness
  • Perform month-end and year-end close process
  • Prepare balance sheets, profit and loss statements, cash flow forecast, cost summaries and other financial reports
  • Compile reports to show statistics such as cash receipts and expenditures, accounts payable and receivable, profit and loss and other items pertinent to the operation of the business
  • Assist in the preparation of financial statement and regulatory filings/taxes in coordination with third-party CPA, as necessary
  • Oversee accounts payable and receivable including entering and monitoring all accounts receivables and prepare accounts payable checks
  • Prepare customer invoices and follow up
  • Create grant and expense invoices and summaries
  • Verify, enter and pay all expense, petty cash and C.O.D. checks.
  • Reconcile and manage all general ledger receivables and revenue
  • Administer financial contracts
  • Collaborate with external accounting services
  • Adhere strictly to the confidentiality policies of the Institute
  • Act as a consultant in areas such as compensation, benefits, and asset protection

Target Salary: $ 100-115 K
 
Job Requirements

 
Required Skills / Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's Degree in Accounting/Finance
  • 3+ years in accounting/finance leadership role
  • 3+ years experience in non-profit 

Preferred Skills / Qualifications:
  •  Proficient in MS Excel, PowerPoint, QuickBooks
