Acara Solutions is looking for an Electro Acoustic Systems Engineer in Microphone Group for our Client located in Itasca - IL

  • As an Acoustic Systems Engineer, you will be a key player in the R&D team, testing, characterizing state of the art MEMS microphone.
  • In addition, you will play an important role in supporting complex failure analyses to ensure smooth ramp-ups and high-volume production.
  • You will also design and simulate new microphones using knowledge of simulation software and acoustics.
  • You will participate in the design and development of new acoustic test systems and experiments in a fascinating research oriented environment.
  • Develop test and verification plans for state-of-the-art microphones
  • Create circuit models using both lumped parameter and finite element analysis.  
  • Then use these models to determine the best ASIC, MEMS, and Package components to meet the design requirements
  • Lab testing and characterization of microphone and ASICs
  • Leads validation testing planning and execution of MEMS Microphone
  • Defining and analysing design verification results to ensure product is meeting requirements
  • Troubleshooting design / technical issues as they arise
  • Work closely with other design and test engineers to test, and characterize designs at every stage
  • Help identify and innovate new or iterative products through collaboration with subject matter experts
  • Occasionally assist Application Engineering with technical support escalations that deeper subject matter expertise
  • Occasionally visit and co-develop with customers on strategic and innovative products
  • Occasionally travel to manufacturing sites to support product introductions.
  • Design acoustic fixtures based on customer requirements.
  • Provide guidance to technicians.
  • Develop and Debug test solutions for Microphone prototypes.
  • Evaluate ICs and other sub components in the lab to validate system performance.
  • Perform failure analysis on microphone prototypes.
  • Closely work with test and design engineers across various business units
Job Requirements

Required Skills / Qualifications:
  • BS in Electrical engineering or Electronics engineering
  • Minimum of 5 years' Experience in designing, building, and debugging electronic systems using digital oscilloscopes, power supplies, parameter analyser, data acquisition and other standard small signal electrical lab equipment
  • Minimum of 5 years' Experience in lab testing of circuits while working with design team
  • Minimum of 5 years' Experience in National Instruments LabVIEW
  • Minimum of 5 years' Experience in Audio background, LabVIEW (ok with the developer's level).

Preferred Skills / Qualifications:
  • Knowledge of acoustic concepts especially lumped element equivalent circuits for acoustic systems and transducers is good to have.
  • Knowledge of analogy circuit simulation software such as pSPICE or LTspice.
  • Knowledge of FEA software such as COMSOL Multi physics or Ansys is good to have.
  • Experience with surface mount components, electromechanical, or electromagnetic components or transducers
  • Knowledge of analogy or digital audio systems: microphones (MEMS, ASIC), speakers, audio formats, audio signal chain in modern consumer electronics
  • Team player
  • Excellent spoken and written communication skills in English
