Acara Solutions, one of the largest aerospace staffing services firms in the U.S., is helping our aerospace manufacturing client in Everett, WA find a Business Unit Manager (within their sales & marketing group) to join their organization as a direct salaried employee. This is mainly an onsite position so candidates need to live in the Seattle region. 9/80 schedule - every other Friday off.

Candidates need to have experience in manufacturing operations with past P&L responsibility.

The Business Unit Manager is responsible for a Business Unit within the organization, including Annual Operational Plans, Quarterly Reviews, Monthly reporting, and overall profit and loss.  This requires organizing and executing related sales and marketing activity, leading a cross functional Business Unit Team that includes Engineering, Manufacturing, Quality, Supply Chain, and Sales.  Extensive interface with customers, including assigned key accounts, as well as company senior staff, parent company executive leadership, and related parties.  Sets priorities for new business projects and tracks progress.  Focuses on pipeline development of the order book, continuous improvement initiatives, and pricing strategy. 

  • Principal responsibility for Business Unit bookings, sales & profit performance
  • Leader of the Business Unit team
  • Organize and execute the sales and marketing activity for the assigned company Business Unit
  • Promote and sell the group's existing products and meet the planned backlog targets
  • Promote value generation of the Business Unit by achieving growth through profitable new business using the A/B new product process
  • Develop annual product prices consistent with customer perceived value and company guidelines
  • Expand market share of both existing and new products
  • Track cost improvement plans and actions related to the Business Unit value generation pla

Booking Duties: 
  • Prepare written proposals for both new and existing products that support the annual Business Unit bookings plan
  • In conjunction with the VP of Sales, prepare a yearly and three year income/bookings plan, which supports the goals of the company's annual business plan
  • Achieve the annual new business booking plan. Provide a rolling forecast of new business quotas
  • At the beginning of every month, provide a monthly report for the month just completed to the VP of Sales on Business Unit performance, sales activity, key metrics & rolling 3-month forecast
  • Coordinate with appropriate personnel on follow-up of open quotations to assure receipt of bookings in support of book-to-ship plan
  • Maintain a pipeline of new products/projects in support of Business Unit growth plans
  • Responsibility for all new business reports & setting priorities. Coordinate with Business Unit team and field sales on setting new business projects/rollout schedules
  • Formulate long range sales/margin analysis and marketing strategy for the Business Unit
  • Support contract administrators in evaluating inquiries, formulating proposal strategy, recommending pricing status to the VP of Sales to ensure our products are specified and purchased

Additional Duties :
  • Lead & Drive the Business Unit management process established by the organization
  • Review terms & conditions for liabilities on all new proposal(s) and LTA's to ensure conformity with Company policy and get concurrence of the VP of Sales
  • Advise the VP of Sales on the overall Business Unit status with the customer and the short/long initiatives required to attain customer loyalty
  • Support field sales/representatives activities; coordinate customers interface; assist in presentations and closing negotiations, train field sales/representative personnel to sell the product
  • Coordinate visits with customer representatives, arrange and participate in conferences as required
  • Assist in the preparation of catalogs, sales brochures, and other promotional literature for the assigned Business Unit
  • Maintain a contact list and develop an outline of major customer organizations to include decision-makers in product management engineering and purchasing
  • Forecast usage on selected items in order to support manufacturing planning and ensure expedient lead times
  • Prepare & present to parent company executive leadership Business Unit Review presentations
  • Conduct team training as required to build a strong, capable, motivated product team
  • Ensure adequate functional support is always available by working directly with functional managers
  • Development of a superior workforce: Work with HR to recruit, interview, select, hire and employ an appropriate number of employees; Coach, mentor, and develop staff; Provide effective performance feedback through recognition, rewards, and disciplinary action when necessary.
 
Job Requirements

 
Required Skills / Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree
Min 5 years of sales or engineering experience within the aerospace industry 
Min 1 year of experience as a Business Unit Manager or with similar operations management responsibilities for an organization or department involving sales & marketing, engineering, manufacturing, quality and supply chain - this includes P&L financial responsibilities.
Min 2 years of experience in a similar sales/marketing, manufacturing and finance (business acumen)  management related role within a manufacturing aerospace firm or other highly regulated industry (e.i., medical device)
